Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) on Thursday, Feb. 13, announced much anticipated House Committee appointments.
Due to a significant number of committee chairs and vice chairs retiring or losing their reelection bids, a big change in chairmanships was expected. Notably, only Republicans were appointed to chair committees, per the new House Rules. You can find a complete list of committee assignments by committee here.
In a statement, Burrows said, “Assigning members to committees is among the most significant and intricate responsibilities of the Speaker – one that demands thoughtful consideration and a delicate balance of many factors. This process is much more than filling seats; it’s about structuring the House in a way that allows each member to contribute their expertise to where it truly makes a difference. Taking the time to get this right was not just necessary – it is what Texans deserve of their government, and I am confident these appointments will position the House for a productive, successful session.”
Committee appointments with jurisdiction over dairy operations and rural Texas include:
- Agriculture & Livestock
- Chair: Ryan Guillen (R-Rio Grande City)
- Vice Chair: Bobby Guerra (D-McAllen)
- Environmental Regulation
- Chair: Brooks Landgraf (R-Odessa)
- Vice Chair: Claudia Ordaz (D-El Paso)
- Natural Resources
- Chair: Cody Harris (R-Palestine)
- Vice Chair: Armando Martinez (D-Weslaco)
- Public Health
- Chair: Gary VanDeaver (R-New Boston)
- Vice Chair: Elizabeth Campos (D-San Antonio)
The Texas Association of Dairymen team would like to congratulate each of these chairs and vice chairs on their appointments.
We look forward to working with every member of the House to ensure the Texas dairy industry continues to lead the way in delivering safe and healthy food to every household.
